Research Writing
in the Sciences
Research Writing in the Sciences is a one-week short course that aims to develop postgraduate students’ (Master’s and PhD) literacies in science. The course will take you through engaged sessions on the entire research process, with discussions ranging from research conceptualisation and contributions to the knowledge economy, to the study discussion, conclusion, and recommendations. Through this process we aim to develop your capacity to:
-
Negotiate the process of research writing,
-
Demystify academic and scientific writing and outputs; and
-
Develop a draft of your chosen written product and receive feedback from the facilitators
We will be offering two short course iterations in 2025: one focusing on 'Thesis writing' in July and another on 'Writing for publication' in November.

Testimonials from previous attendees

'Great. It helped zone in the important aspects of my research and how to present certain sections more effectively.'

'The highlight of the course was manifold and I learnt that there was much to rewrite in my proposal. The art of academic writing was the ABC explanation of it as given by the presenters. The explanations and exercises were clear and encouraged discussion. It gave me hope to continue after the impacts of Co-vid 19 on my studies.'

'Great experience. Thoroughly prepared me for writing my research in future.'

'I will highly recommend this course to my fellow MPH colleagues.'
